Snowflakes and reindeer? Peppermint and nutmeg? Frosty and Rudolph? Red and green, silver and gold, sleighs and bells, lights and holly, packages and stockings, trees and wreaths?
Most likely all these things elicit memories and feelings of Christmas for you. And maybe there’s more. Kids wearing bathrobes and bouncy tinsel halos, acting as shepherds and angels. Linus’ speech on the empty stage beneath the spotlight. A grandparent reading from Luke 2 in the big old family Bible.
In the end, while we realize Jesus likely wasn’t born in winter and no reindeer were involved, what we celebrate this season is God becoming man, our savior coming into this world as promised.
A snowflake on a coffee cup or the lack thereof won’t ever change that. Thank God!
