We appreciate blogger Tim Challies. In an August post, Challies said there are three kinds of churches: churches that don’t love, churches that love each other and churches that love you. You can probably fill in the blanks, envisioning how each kind of church functions and feels.
We’d like to suggest that yet another kind of church does, can, exist. That would be the church that loves God and really believes he loves it. A church immersed in loving God and knowing his love is a church that simply can’t help loving others. That kind of church loves him so much that that love spills out to one another in the church and to visitors and people outside the doors.
Let’s aim to develop a God-loving focus in all our churches. An upward focus can only improve our outward focus.
